Google Overhauls Search Experience with AI-Powered 'Magi'
Google's Annual Revenue at Risk as Samsung Contemplates Bing as Default Search Engine
Google is developing a project called Magi to integrate AI tools into its search engine.
160 engineers are working in "sprint mode" to create a personalized and intelligent search experience for users.
The new AI search will be able to learn what users are looking for and provide relevant answers and suggestions.
Google aims to maintain its competitive edge over search engines like Bing and other AI-powered platforms.
Magi is currently in the early stages of development, and there is no timeline for its launch.
They will soon facilitate transactions like flight bookings directly within the search.
MADA
In markets such as the US, Samsung is unable to replace Google with Microsoft's Bing as the default search engine on its phones, as per Google's Mobile Application Distribution Agreement (MADA) that mandates all Android OEMs to pre-install and use Google Search as the default.
Nevertheless, in regions like Europe and India, where there are different versions of MADA, Google may face some challenges as Bing, equipped with advanced AI capabilities, emerges as a formidable competitor.
MADA regulations vary by region, with Europe seeing a change in the rules in 2018 after Google was fined $5 billion for antitrust violations. The company then unbundled Google Search and Chrome from the required suite of Google apps for OEMs selling Android phones in the region.
In India, a new version of the agreement is in development, where only the Google Play Store is mandatory to be pre-installed. Users can select their default search engine through a ballot screen.
Imagining new Indian sci-fi stories through the power of AI
Midjourney is gaining a cult following on Instagram, thanks to Prateek Arora's bold visuals. But it's not only their striking realism that's turning heads. Arora is exploring uncharted territory in South Asia with his focus on science fiction-inspired Indian characters and scenes, breaking new ground in a genre that has received little attention in the region. In this interview with writer Alex Kahl, Arora talks about his ambition to encourage more investment in South Asian sci-fi projects and to present young Indians with a broader range of heroes who reflect their own likeness.
